2025-2026 Gay Agenda
Q1: Advocacy
(July-September)
Q2: Legislation
(October-December)
Q3: Community Engagement
(January-March)
Q4: Wellness Initiatives
(April-June)
At SAIGE-LA, advocacy is more than a quarterly theme—it’s the heartbeat of our mission. In Q1, we center advocacy as a dynamic force for equity, visibility, and systemic change. For us, advocacy means championing affirming care for LGBTQ+ individuals, challenging oppressive structures, and amplifying the voices of those most impacted by marginalization.
This quarter, we focus on equipping counselors, educators, and community leaders with the tools to create safe, inclusive spaces—whether through intentional dialogue, policy engagement, or everyday acts of affirmation. From hosting webinars that explore the impact of rejection versus affirmation, to launching statewide initiatives like our LGBTQ+ Resource List Project, SAIGE-LA is committed to advocacy that is both courageous and compassionate.
Together, we advocate not just for access—but for belonging, dignity, and liberation.
In Q2, SAIGE-LA turns its focus to legislation—where advocacy meets action. We recognize that affirming care and inclusive practices must be protected not only in counseling rooms but also in courtrooms and capitol halls. This quarter, we mobilize to challenge harmful bills and uplift policies that safeguard LGBTQ+ rights across Louisiana.
🎯 Legislative Agenda Priorities for Louisiana:
SAIGE-LA is actively monitoring and responding to key legislative developments that impact our communities:
Support Comprehensive Anti-Discrimination Protections
Louisiana still lacks statewide laws explicitly protecting LGBTQ+ individuals from discrimination in employment, housing, and public accommodations. We advocate for legislation like HB429, which would have extended employment protections but failed to pass.
Oppose Bans on Gender-Affirming Care
Recent legislative efforts have targeted transgender youth, including bans on gender-affirming care for minors. SAIGE-LA stands firmly against these measures and supports healthcare autonomy and dignity for all.
Challenge Bills That Undermine Mental Health Access
HB400, which sought to remove minors' ability to consent to mental or medical care, was defeated—but its introduction signals ongoing threats to youth mental health rights.
Resist Anti-DEI and Anti-Immigrant Legislation
Bills like HB685 (banning DEI initiatives) and SB15 (criminalizing efforts to help undocumented individuals) reflect broader attacks on equity and inclusion. We oppose these measures and advocate for intersectional justice.
Promote Pro-LGBTQ+ Employment and Education Policies
We support legislation that affirms LGBTQ+ individuals in workplaces and schools, including efforts to expand inclusive curricula and protect student rights.
This quarter, SAIGE-LA calls on counselors, educators, and allies to engage in legislative advocacy—whether by contacting representatives, attending town halls, or sharing stories that humanize the impact of these laws. Together, we can shape a legal landscape that reflects our values: affirmation, equity, and liberation.
In Q3, SAIGE-LA celebrates the power of connection. Community engagement is the lifeblood of our advocacy—it’s where policy meets people, and where healing begins through shared purpose. This quarter, we deepen our commitment to building bridges across Louisiana’s diverse LGBTQ+ communities, centering collaboration, visibility, and mutual care.
Amplifying Local Voices
We prioritize listening to and uplifting the lived experiences of LGBTQ+ individuals, especially those in rural, BIPOC, and historically underserved areas. Our initiatives are shaped by the voices of those we serve.
Hosting Inclusive Events
From counselor wellness retreats to webinars, SAIGE-LA creates spaces where professionals and community members can gather, learn, and grow together.
Strengthening Provider Networks
Through the SAIGE-LA Resource List Project, we connect affirming providers across the state, fostering a web of care that is accessible, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed.
Collaborating Across Sectors
We engage with educators, healthcare professionals, legal advocates, and grassroots organizers to ensure our work is intersectional and far-reaching.
Centering Joy and Resilience
Community engagement isn’t just about addressing challenges—it’s about celebrating identity, honoring resilience, and cultivating joy. We believe in the transformative power of gathering with intention.
This quarter, SAIGE-LA invites you to show up, speak out, and stand together. Whether you're hosting a local event, sharing resources, or simply checking in with a colleague—your engagement matters. Together, we create a community where affirmation isn’t just a value—it’s a lived experience.
Of course! Here's a warm and inspiring description of SAIGE-LA’s Q4 theme: Wellness Initiative, with a spotlight on your upcoming counselor wellness retreat:
As the year winds down, SAIGE-LA turns inward to nurture the heart of our movement: the well-being of those who serve. In Q4, our Wellness Initiative honors the emotional, physical, and spiritual health of counselors, advocates, and community leaders who show up every day for others. We believe that sustainable advocacy begins with sustainable care—for ourselves and each other.
🧘♀️ Counselor Wellness Retreat: Spring 2026
In alignment with our commitment to holistic wellness, SAIGE-LA is thrilled to announce plans for our Counselor Wellness Retreat, a restorative gathering designed to:
Reconnect with Purpose
Through guided reflection, creative workshops, and nature-based activities, counselors will have space to realign with their personal and professional values.
Cultivate Community Care
The retreat will foster meaningful connections among LGBTQ+ affirming professionals across Louisiana, creating a supportive network rooted in shared experience and mutual encouragement.
Offer Healing Modalities
Participants will engage in practices such as mindfulness, expressive arts, somatic movement, and trauma-informed self-care—all tailored to the unique needs of helping professionals.
Celebrate Resilience
We’ll honor the emotional labor and advocacy work of our members, creating space for joy, rest, and renewal.
Wellness is not a luxury—it’s a necessity. In a field marked by burnout, secondary trauma, and systemic challenges, SAIGE-LA affirms that caring for ourselves is a radical act of resistance. Our Q4 theme reminds us that healing is communal, and that rest is a vital part of the work. This quarter, we invite our members to pause, breathe, and invest in their own well-being. Because when we care for the caregivers, we strengthen the entire movement.
